When an individual passes an 18 wheeler on the freeway, he or she may not consider that the truck driver may not be able to see his or her car. Unfortunately, this is how many accidents with commercial drivers begin.
Like any other vehicle, a commercial truck has blind spots, known as the no zones. In the no zone, the trucker cannot see anything that inhabits the area. Most trucks have four no zones, which include:
- Directly to the left or right of the trailer
- Directly in front of the truck
- Directly behind the trailer
When a driver occupies one of these area, the trucker likely will not be able to see him or her. This means that the trucker, thinking no one is around, may try to speed up, brake suddenly, or change lanes. When this happens, the person in the no zone will likely receive serious injuries in the resulting accident.
Many trucks have warning stickers on their trailers that tell fellow motorists to stay out of these blind spots. Some do not have these warnings, which may spell trouble for an inexperienced driver who does not know any better. When the warnings are missing, the injured individual may be entitled to financial compensation for his or her injuries. Even when the signs are present, the injured individual may still be entitled to financial compensation.
It is important to consult with an experienced lawyer before pursuing legal action, as a lawyer will be able to help you determine whether you have a case.
Truck accidents often leave the people in the passenger automobile seriously injured. If you or someone you love was injured in a no zone accident, the Queens truck accident attorneys of Parker Waichman Alonso, LLP may be able to help you.
